The premise behind backlink packages is to get a bulk of services types in 1 package with a discount, as opposed to buying all of the services in a package "a la carte" and paying substancially more for the total services. What You Want in a Backlink Package
Before purchasing any backlink package, you want to take a very close look at all of the services included in the package. The main reason for this is to determine if you are actually receiving a discount for the services that have been bundled together. Through our internal studies, we have found that company after company would just throw all of their services into one or two giagantic packages of services and sell it to you as a discounted bulk product.
The results of these studies were staggering...
We found companies who were selling services that were not even useful in link building services. For instance, people were actually selling testimonials, including video testimonials in their backlink packages. This was shocking to us to say the least. First point here is that the FCC has released new laws that govern testimonials and disclosures that you have to place on your site near the testimonial to validate if the person had been paid or received any compensation for their testimonial. Yet as we looked arround we found that the company selling the package said nothing about including this on your site to protect yourself. The second point we have to this is, if they are selling you testimonials; what does that say about the testimonials that were on their page?
The next exception we took to all of these link building packages goes back to one of our main ideals of link building; "The Consultation". Now, stop for a moment and think about this. If you are new to link building and SEO or if a SEO Company is making a recommendation to you on services that you should buy from them; wouldn't you want to ensure that they knew about your site, your ranking, your keywords, and your overall expectations?
The final exception to these "so called" other link building packages is that we found time and time again that the meat (the best part of the package) was often times diluted to give way to more services that add a lot less value in a link building package. What we mean is, some packages reduced the number of backlinks to add in pings or to create RSS files to ping. Now, don't get us wrong, there is nothing wrong with those services at all, but when we find that there are less backlinks being given versus more for pings and RSS creation files; seems there is a problem. Backlinks, Social Web 2.0, EDU Backlinks, and Article Services are considered the meat of any link building package, everythign else is considered extra.
