About Link Wheels

Link Wheels are a lot like Link Pyramids in that they are a group of sites that are linked to other sites, which finally link to your website. In order to best explain Link Wheels, think of a bicycle wheel, and the spokes are the links connecting to the main hub in the center (which is your website). The outer or rim areas of the wheel are the linking sites.

Many SEO companies will set up a link wheel with many types of outer sites and rate them as they link in. So there is a type of pyramid build to it, with the lower Page Ranked and SERP sites on the outside of the wheel, and the linked sites that are closest to your site are higher in Page Rank or SERP.

Unlike a Link Pyramid though, a Link Wheel has a more chaotic link structure. In a Link Wheel the outer sites are linked to other sites and sometimes to your website. It requires some planning and layout, however some SEO companies swear by it. This is still a very popular link building strategy in SEO link building services, and one that should not be ignored. But like everything else, moderation and diversity in your links will make your link building campaigns golden!

Drawbacks

One of the biggest drawbacks of a link wheel is that it normally requires a heavy dose of site registration. Meaning the press release, video, article, and other social sites like Hubpages or Squido need to have you register to them and some even require you to set them up.

Another annoyance of Link Wheels in link building services is that you are actually generating backlinks to other pages, and some of those domains do not even belong to you. If an administrator of an article site deletes your page or article, you have essentially wasted all those links.

Anchor Text or Keywords

You want to vary and use multiple anchor texts for this type of link structure. If every link has the same anchor text, Google will devalue your links and mat toss you into the dreaded Sandbox. Make sure you have a list of keywords ready if you choose this type of link structure.

We also offer Keyword Research Services if you decide that you would like our assistance in locating a multitude of keyword options.

Before Panda

Before Google's Panda update, SEO companies used to link Hubpages and Squido pages to link wheels a lot. Due to the high page rank they carried, this was an over abused system. Because of the exploitation and the duplicate content these pages had in link wheels, Google smacked them down a bit. Now we have to diversify the types of links we use in link wheels. This was not a bad thing to say the least, before the diversity in the site types was very limited. Link builders were lazy and they just built a bunch of these types of pages in a ring around the main website page. Now, with this update from Google, it has forced SEO companies to become more diverse in the types of sites they use. Please don't get us wrong tho, these sites are still used as part of the overall wheel, but not used as much as they were being used.

Types of Links

Just like with Link Pyramids, here is a list of the types of links used in Link Wheels:

1) Social Web 2.0
2) Social Networks
3) Social Bookmarks
4) Article Directories
5) Press Releases
6) RSS Submissions
7) Video Submissions
8. Forum Profiles
9) Blog Comments
10) Pinger
